IMPORTANT:


Transportation limit for chemical related items: It is against the law to transport more than 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous waste to collection sites. Please pack your waste properly to prevent tipping or spilling o fthe waste during transportation.


We accept: paint and solvents; used motor oil and filters, anti-freeze, and other automotive fluids; cleaning products; pool and garden chemicals; aerosol cans; all medicine except controlled substances; auto batteries; household batteries.
E-waste: computers, monitors, printers, network, equipment, cables, telephones, televisions, microwaves, video games, cell phones, radios, stereos, VCRs, and electronic toys.
Asbestos & Wood (with Creosote): Asbestos (friable) must be abated by professionals an then wetted and double bagged in plastic. Asbestos and wood (creosote) must be less than 3 ft. in length.

WE DO NOT ACCEPT:

  • Business/commercial wastes
  • Bulky items such as furniture and large appliances
  • Ammunition
  • Explosives
  • Radioactive materials
  • Medical/biological wastes
  • Tires
  • Marine flares/firecrackers

How to dispose of Household Hazardous Waste

Everyday household products found under your kitchen sink or in your garage are household hazardous waste (HHW).  
 
This includes items such as:  

  • Paint

  • Paint thinners

  • Cleaners and solvents

  • Used oil

  • Furniture polish

  • Unwanted electronic equipment

LA Sanitation (LASAN) has established a number of permanent collection sites throughout the City, known as S.A.F.E. Centers. These S.A.F.E. Centers are open every weekend and provide a convenient way to dispose of your HHW.  In addition to S.A.F.E. Centers, LASAN sponsors periodic Mobile Collection Events throughout the City where residents can drop off their HHW to be disposed of properly.
